Georgetown: Michael "Redbird" Durwood Cox, 60, died Sunday, May 15, 2016, at Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whitesville, NC. Mr. Cox was born in Georgetown on December 26, 1955, a son of the late Milton Lester Cox and Stella Neely Cox. He grew up in Georgetown and attended Winyah High School and First Baptist Church of Georgetown. Mr. Cox was an avid deer hunter and was a member of The Cattail Hunting Club. He was a former deputy sheriff with Georgetown County, assisted the Georgetown County coroner, and was a Merchant Marine. Surviving are: his wife, Debra W. Cox of Georgetown; three sons, Michael Dileon Cox of Georgetown, John Dillon Cox (Mary Delong) of Andrews and Brian Lee Cox of Supply, NC; six grandchildren; and a brother Thomas Lee Cox of Georgetown. Memorial services will be held at two o'clock on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. Officiating with be the Rev. Kenneth Johnson, The family will receive friends following the service in the Mausoleum Chapel.
