Michael J. Tretola, age 66, died August 24, at his residence in Murrells Inlet, S.C. Mr. Tretola was born in Gloversville, New York, son of the late Michael F. Tretola and Fannie O'Grady Tretola. At an early age, Mr. Tretola moved to Connecticut, where he graduated from the University of Connecticut. Following three years of service with U. S. Army Intelligence, he joined the Diplomatic Courier Service with the U.S. Department of State; then transferring to the Diplomatic Security Department of State. He served in Panama, Beirut, South Africa, and Washington, D.C. Mr. Tretola traveled frequently throughout the Middle East, China, and Africa in support of Secretary of State Kissinger's "Shuttle Diplomacy". He retired in 1988 and moved to Murrells Inlet in 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Faye Tretola, who was also a Foreign Service Officer with the Department of State. There will be a private family service only.
