Columbia:
Mildred Avant Juk, 87, died Tuesday, February 9, 2010, at Agapé Senior Kathwood.
Mrs. Juk was born in Georgetown County on December 2, 1922, a daughter of the late Landy Wood Avant, Sr. and Ella Grier Avant. She was the owner and operator of the Southern Lady and Mildred's Dress Shop in Georgetown for 25 years. Mrs. Juk was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. She lived in Georgetown for 86 years and moved to Columbia in October, 2008 to be near her children. She missed her Georgetown friends and always smiled when she heard from "home". She was the wife of the late Steven Stanley Juk, Sr.
Surviving are: a son, Dr. Stan Juk (Ann) of Columbia; a daughter, Susan Juk Salley (Chuck) of Columbia; five grandchildren, Steven Juk, Katherine Juk Draffin (Stephen), Charles Salley, Ella Salley and Alex Salley; three great-grandchildren, Walker Draffin, Ellie Draffin, and Ann Nelson Draffin; four brothers, Dalvin Avant, Dr. Bill Avant (Eleanor), and Landy Avant, all of Georgetown, and Ray Avant (Reba) of Columbia; two sisters, Bunny Wilson of Georgetown and Frankie Dodd (Bruce) of Columbia.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, February 11, 2010, at one o'clock in Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church in Georgetown. Officiating will be The Rev. Dr. G. Edward Usher. Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends in the Family Life Center of the Church. Burial will follow at Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens at four o'clock.
The family will also receive friends at the home of Dr. S. Stanley Juk, Jr., 1900 Old Neck Rd., Columbia, S.C. 29206 on Wednesday evening, February 10, 2010, from six until eight o'clock.
The family wishes to thank all of Mrs. Juk's faithful friends, including the staff and caregivers at Agapé Senior Kathwood. They also want to thank Helen Smith, Delaine Salley and Palmetto Health Hospice for their heartfelt love and devotion.
