Georgetown:
Mildred Moskow Sloan, 93, wife of Lucius Clifton ("L. C.") Sloan, died Friday, June 21, 2013, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Sloan was born in Sardinia, S. C., a daughter of the late Robert Moskow and Eva Cox Moskow. She was a graduate of Andrews High School and Winthrop University, where she was a member of the college basketball team. Mrs. Sloan was retired from Georgetown Memorial Hospital after 22 years of employment. She also worked at International Paper Company for 15 years. After retirement, Mrs. Sloan continued working in her home until the age of 88.
Mrs. Sloan was a member of Georgetown Presbyterian Church for 60 years and sang in the church choir for 50 years. She was an Honorary Life member of the Presbyterian Women and a member of the Georgetown Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for 50 years. In 2003, she received the President's Volunteer Service Award from President Bush for her service and civic participation. Mrs. Sloan loved to bake and decorate cakes and was especially known for her homemade pound cakes and crocheted afghans. She volunteered for numerous church functions, enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, loved shopping and dining out, and most of all, she loved her "Baby", L. C., and taking care of him.
Mrs. Sloan was predeceased by a brother, Jerome Moskow and a sister, Naomi Moskow Rowell.
Surviving are: her husband of 67 years whom she wed on July 31, 1946, of Georgetown; a son, Lucius Clifton Sloan, Jr. (Lea Ann) of Georgetown; a daughter, Cindy Hunt (David) of Whiteville, N. C.; three grandchildren, Luke Johnson (Melanie), Jill Nelson (William), and Megan Sloan; three great grandchildren, Grant Johnson, Sloan Johnson, and Drew Nelson; a brother, Herbert Moskow (Vee) of Denmark; a sister-in-law, Mary Lydia Moskow of Andrews; and a number of nieces and nephews
Funeral services will be Tuesday morning, June 25, 2013, at eleven o'clock at the Georgetown Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Stephen H. Wilkins. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
