Obituary

Georgetown: Minnie Agatha Kennedy, 97, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at Georgetown Healthcare and Rehab Center. Miss Kennedy was born at Hobcaw Barony in Georgetown on December 25, 1916, a daughter of the late William Kennedy and Daisy Jenkins Kennedy. She grew up in Georgetown and graduated from Howard High School and South Carolina State College. After teaching at Howard High School for three years, Miss Kennedy held various teaching positions, from early childhood classrooms to college courses. She taught at New York University School of Education, Connecticut State College, Adelphi University Urban Education Center, and The City College of New York Comprehensive Day Care Teacher Training Center. Miss Kennedy was a communicant of Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church, where she was a former member of the Docent Program and Episcopal Church Women. Miss Kennedy travelled extensively, both throughout the United States and abroad, as an educational consultant to various schools and universities. She was also actively involved in Civil Rights Projects, including the march on Selma, Ala., the 1963 march on Washington, and voter's registration projects in Louisiana and Mississippi. Miss Kennedy retired from the position of Professor of Education at The Bank Street College of Education in New York City in June of 1984. Survivors include her nephew, Moses Prioleau of Georgetown; her niece, Almena Kennard of N. Brunswick, NJ; and a number of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. Memorial services will be held Saturday morning, January 25, 2014 at eleven o'clock at Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church. Officiating will be the Very Rev. Paul C. Fuener.
