Pawleys Island: Nancy S. McCants, 72, died Sunday, December 28, 2008, at her residence. Mrs. McCants was born in Georgetown on July 18, 1936, a daughter of the late David Clark Simpkins, Jr. and Alyne Jordan Johnson Simpkins. She grew up in Georgetown, graduated from Winyah High School, attended Converse College, and graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.S. in Education and a Masters in Education. She taught school in Georgia for a number of years. Mrs. McCants moved to Pawleys Island in 1997 from Waycross, Ga. She was a communicant of All Saints Church. Surviving are: her husband, Jim McCants of Pawleys Island; two daughters, Kim McCants Conder of Camden and Ashley McCants Plymel of Moultrie, Ga.; a brother, David Simpkins of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Emily Brooks Conder, John Walter Conder, IV, Mary Catherine Plymel, and McCants Plymel. Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at eleven o'clock in All Saints Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Thomas C. Brown. Burial will follow in All Saints Churchyard.
