Obituary

Nicholas Woodfin (Nick) Glover passed away on September 12, 2024 at his home.

Nick was the son of William Ferguson Hutson Glover, Jr. and Floride Morrison Glover, both of McClellanville, SC. Nick graduated from Winyah High School in Georgetown, SC and entered the Naval Academy after finishing high school. He graduated from the Academy in 1965. After completing his required Naval service, Nick decided to pursue a business career.

Nick became the youngest Vice-President of R.J. Reynolds and was also a senior vice-president of RJR International. During his tenure with RJR, Nick lived for several years in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Pacific Rim. After leaving RJR, Nick joined 13-30 Group which owned Esquire magazine and a number of specialty magazines. 13-30 Group morphed into Whittle Communications and Nick was the founding President/CEO of Whittle Communications working with founder Chris Whittle. Nick stayed with Whittle for about 10 years before semi-retiring.

During semi-retirement, he and his wife, psychologist Dr. Kathleen Broughan, spent a year or so cruising on the east coast in their motor cruiser. Nick also picked up horse riding from his wife and they became founding members of the Tennessee Valley Hunt. Nick became an avid horseman and enjoyed foxhunting for a number of years. He and Kathleen also enjoyed several years of travel to all of the usual places. They wrapped up their semi-retirement by purchasing a bluewater sailboat (Orcella) in San Francisco and spending about 5 years on her cruising the west coasts of the US and Mexico; then bringing her through the Panama Canal and ending up in the Chesapeake Bay.

Finally tired of retirement, Nick and Kathleen moved to Charleston, SC where they founded Lowcountry Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (LEAP). LEAP is a non-profit organization that works with troubled children and families and with military personnel to help them overcome their emotional traumas.

Most recently, Nick has been working with a start-up company (PEC360) helping them structure a business to reach out to patients in need of medical· help and helping them get the help they need.

Nick is survived by his wife Kathleen and their menagerie of dogs and horses; by his sons, Nick Jr of Charleston, SC and John of Hendersonville, NC; and by his grandsons, Nicholas Woodfin Ill (Woods) and Alexander (Xan) of Charleston, SC.

Nick always gave graduating from the Naval Academy most of the credit for whatever successes he had in life. So in lieu of flowers, Nick would appreciate a donation to the Naval Academy or to Lowcountry Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy .

Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, September 20, 2024, at Prince George Winyah Parish Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
