Obituary

Georgetown: Norbert Joseph Delatte, 77, died Monday, July 17, 2006 in his home following an illness. Mr. Delatte was born in Vacherie, Louisiana, the son of Paul Justin and Pauline Steib Delatte, and lived in Georgetown since 1988. He was a veteran of the United States Army, with service at Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco, California. Following his military service, he earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in education from Louisiana State University. Mr. Delatte spent three decades as an educator for the Department of Defense Dependent Schools in France, Germany, and Italy. As a librarian, he nurtured the love of learning in generations of students. The Department of Defense Dependents Schools awarded him several Sustained Superior Work Performance Certificates over his years of dedicated service. Mr. Delatte was also a lifelong Roman Catholic and a member of St. Mary Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church in Georgetown. Mr. Delatte is survived by: his wife of almost 45 years, Virginia McClary Delatte; his sister, Betty Becnel of New Orleans, Louisiana; and by children, Norbert Joseph Delatte, Jr. and his wife M. Lynn of Cleveland, Ohio, Patrick McClary Delatte and his wife Kimberly Susan of Burke, Virginia, and Justin Paul Delatte of Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey. He was a loving and devoted grandfather to Blair, Patrick, Lindsey, Isabella, Rachel, Joe (Norbert III), and Mark Anthony. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday morning, July 20, 2006, at ten o'clock at St. Mary Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Ronald J. Farrell. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home Wednesday evening, July 19, 2006, from six until eight o'clock with a Vigil service at seven o'clock.
