Obituary for Helen Hefner Madden

Columbia:
Helen Hefner Madden, died Wednesday, March 28, 2018.
Helen was born November 8, 1957, the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Allen Madden. Helen grew up in Columbia and attended Heathwood Hall Episcopal School and Dreher High School. She attended Mt. Vernon College and was graduated from The College of Charleston with a BA in Business. She received a Master’s in International Business in Portuguese from The University of South Carolina School of Business. Helen worked for Cummins in Charleston and was a licensed realtor with Century 21. She was a recruiter with D. P. Professionals in Columbia. She was a volunteer with Friends of the Richland County Public Library for many years.
Just as her parents and grandparents, Helen spent much of her time at Pawleys Island. She loved to fish and was an excellent cook. She opened a cookware shop there named “Pawleys Pantry”. Helen enjoyed extensive travel through Europe, Japan, and Brazil. She often took cooking classes, also. She learned to graft and propagate camellias, a hobby she learned from her grandfather, James A. Vaughan. Animal rescue was a passion for Helen, as evidenced by all the dogs she helped place.
Helen is survived by her siblings: Arthur Allen Madden, Jr., Brandon Vaughan Madden, and James Emmett Madden (Suzy Parrott); niece and nephews: Kelley Vaughan Madden, Arthur Allen Madden, III, James McGregor Madden, and Emmett Alexander Madden.
Graveside services will be held at All Saints Cemetery, Pawleys Island, on April 15, 2018 at 2:00 pm.
Memorials may be made to Miss Ruby’s Kids at Pawleys Island, P.O. Box 1007, Georgetown, SC 29442, and Friends of the Library, 1431 Assembly St. Columbia SC 29201, or Pets Inc., 300 Orchard Dr, West Columbia, SC 29170.
