Andrews:
Odean Huggins Smith, 93, widow of George Harvey Smith, Jr., died Saturday, January 2, 2010 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Smith was born in Hemingway, S.C. on July 4, 1916, a daughter of the late George Anderson Huggins and Sephey Brown Huggins. She was a graduate of Hemingway High School and received a diploma from Southeastern Commercial College in 1935. In 1938, she married George Harvey Smith, Jr. and moved to the Andrews area. She was employed for a number of years by Oneita Knitting Mills and later by Andrews Nursery.
She was a long-time faithful member of Elim United Methodist church in Andrews, serving as a teacher and leader in the church's Sunday School, Bible School, youth groups, and choir.
Surviving are her two daughters, Rebecca Smith Mixon (Phillip) and Susan Smith, both of Andrews; four grandchildren, Ken Mixon (Nalani) of Columbia, LaTosha Glisson of Andrews, Natalie Poston (Lee) of Johnsonville and Bethany Moore (Justin) of Andrews; eight great-grandchildren, Kendall and Wallace Mixon, Jessica and Matthew Gabel, Austin and Nicholas Thomas, and Heath and Greyson Moore; her brother, Philip Huggins of Hemingway; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Huggins of Hemingway.
Funeral services will be held at eleven o'clock Monday, January 4, 2010, at Elim United Methodist Church, 8897 Thurgood Marshall Hwy., Andrews. Burial will follow in the Churchyard.
