Georgetown:
Patricia Shackelford Snyder, widow of John Clem Snyder, Jr., died Friday, March 16, 2018, at National Healthcare Center, Garden City.
Patricia was born in Georgetown on March 18, 1932, the daughter of the late Henry White Shackelford and Sarah Effie Tindall Shackelford. She grew up in Georgetown and graduated from Winyah High School. Patty was a 1954 graduate of Winthrop College with a B.A. in Journalism and English. During her time at Winthrop as the editor of The Johnsonian, she discovered her love of language. Always the avid reader and writer, Patty shared that love with all children during her 36 years as an elementary school teacher.
Patty was an active member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church and was a member of the Francis Asbury Sunday School Class. John and Patty loved to dance and were active members of the Ribbon Club. Upon her retirement, she volunteered with literacy and Friendship Place.
Surviving are: three daughters, Sarah S. Dailey of Guam; Mary S. Whittle (Craig) of Lexington; and Rebecca S. Leggett (John) of Surfside Beach; a son, John C. Snyder III (Regina) of Timmonsville; five grandchildren, Sierra Lawhon (William), Tindal Leggett, Davis Whittle, John C. Snyder IV, and John Clayton Leggett; two great-grandchildren, Grant and Jase; and a very special friend and caregiver, Patricia "Peachez" Dobey of Georgetown.
Funeral Services will be at eleven o'clock, Tuesday morning, March 20, 2018, at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Dora Gafford. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday evening, March 19, 2018, from five until seven o'clock at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home.
