N. Litchfield Beach: Pauline Medhurst Fookes, 69, died Sunday, July 23, 2006, at the Medical University of S.C. Hospital in Charleston. Mrs. Fookes was born in Balham London, England on July 23, 1937, a daughter of the late Vincent Medhurst and Elfrida Williams Medhurst. She grew up in London and received her Registered Nurse degree in Bristol, England. Mrs. Fookes lived in a number of places including Canada, Trinidad, and Salisbury, N.C. and moved to S.C. in 1970. She was a breast cancer survivor. Mrs. Fookes was a teacher's aide in the Rowan Co., N.C. school district for a time. She was a past president of the International Women's Club in Salisbury, N.C. and a Roman Catholic. Mrs. Fookes was predeceased by a sister, Janina Medhurst. Surviving are: her husband, Michael Fookes of N. Litchfield Beach; two sons, Paul Fookes and his wife, Kelli of Myrtle Beach and Andrew Fookes and his wife Kimberly of Signal Mountain, Tenn.; two daughters, Sharon Fookes of N. Litchfield Beach and Nicola Fookes-Goodson of Alexandria, Va.; and five grandchildren, Claire, Hailey, Abigale, Daniel, and Jacob Fookes. Memorial services will be four o'clock Friday afternoon, July 28, 2006, at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. James Gerrety.
