Andrews: Pauline Payne Smith, 86, died Wednesday, January 7, 2004, at Williamsburg Regional Hospital in Kingstree. Mrs. Smith was born in Bessemer City, N. C. on November 3, 1917, a daughter of the late David Lee Payne and Ethel Ida Phifer Payne. She grew up in Trio and graduated from Andrews High School. Mrs. Smith was the widow of Marion Asbury Smith. She was a member of Elim United Methodist Church and the Elim United Methodist Women. Surviving are: a son, Ronald L. Smith of Andrews; two daughters, Nan S. Blakely of Georgetown and Paulette S. Mincey of Hemingway; two sisters, Marie P. Lambert of Andrews and Edith P. Brantley of Beaufort; fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Smith was predeceased by: two sons, Marion Asbury Smith, Jr. and Lancy Lee Smith; and a great-grandson, Daniel Jayroe "Jay" Newton. Funeral services will be eleven o'clock Friday morning, January 9, 2003, at Elim United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Julius Hadden. Burial will follow in the Churchyard.
