Georgetown:
Peter Michael Vanderwerff, 70, died Monday, January 4, 2010, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Vanderwerff was born in Wyomissing, Pa. on April 30, 1939, a son of the late John William Vanderwerff and Elizabeth Wengery Vanderwerff. He grew up in Danville, Va. and was a graduate of George Washington High School and Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1962, with a degree in Civil Engineering. He served as an officer in the U. S. Army in Germany.
Surviving are: his wife, Dixie Thomas Vanderwerff, a son Peter Michael Vanderwerff, Jr. of Greensboro, N. C.; three daughters, Phebe Whitney Vanderwerff and Sarah Tennille (Keith) Kaplan, both of Greensboro, N. C., and Alice Tennille (Ron) Givens of Mt. Pleasant; two brothers, William Vanderwerff of Stuart, Fla. and Buzz Vanderwerff of Greensboro, N. C.; five sisters, Wendy Underwood of Sarasota, Fla., Denise Routson of McDaniel, Md., Alida Vanderwerff of Rock Hill, and Kathy Moca and Renee Orren, both of Greenville. He was the loving Grandfather of five granddaughters, Kerri Leigh Vanderwerff, Alice Austin Givens, Sarah Walker Marian Givens, Alice Fortune Kaplan, and Anne Byrd Kaplan.
A private service will be held for the immediate family in Charleston.
