Georgetown:
Philip Lewenthal Schneider, 96, died Saturday, June 14, 2008, at his residence.
Mr. Schneider was born in Georgetown on January 2, 1912, a son of the late Albert Max Schneider and Fannie Lewenthal Schneider. He grew up in Georgetown and was a graduate of Winyah High School and the University of South Carolina. Mr. Schneider retired in 1988 as co-owner of The New Store, an appliance and furniture store in Georgetown. The New Store and its predecessor, the Hyman Schneider Company, were in continuous operation from 1910 through 1988. He was a member of Temple Beth Elohim and a former president of the temple. Mr. Schneider was also a former member of the Moose Lodge.
Mr. Schneider was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Levkoff Schneider; a son, Bryan M. Schneider; and two brothers, Cecil W. Schneider and Harold A. Schneider.
Surviving are: a son, Laz Levkoff Schneider of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; a daughter, Susan S. Berry of Murrells Inlet; and three grandchildren, Jonathan Berry of Murrells Inlet, Allison Spinner of Menlo Park, Calif., and David Schneider of New York City, N. Y., and a great grandson, Peyton Spinner.
Funeral services were five o'clock Sunday afternoon, June 15, 2008, at the graveside in Beth Elohim Cemetery. Officiating was Bob Zemick.
