Cumbie, Sr.
August 13, 1943 – April 27, 2025
Phillip K. Cumbie, Sr., 81, went home to be with the Lord on April 27, 2025, at his home in Georgetown, SC, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on August 13, 1943, in Andrews, SC, Phillip was the son of the late George and Bernice Cumbie. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1961 and began a long and dedicated career. He worked with Coburg Dairy for over twenty years before joining Woodmen of the World Life Insurance, where he remained until his retirement in 2011.
A proud and passionate Gamecock fan, Phillip especially loved watching women's basketball. He also found great joy in gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, George Cumbie, Bobby Cumbie, and Allen Cumbie; and one sister, Mary Thomas.
Phillip is survived by his devoted wife, Faye Cumbie; his three children, Cheryl Ashenfelder (Dwayne), Phil Cumbie (Robin), and Craig Cumbie (Nancy); eight grandchildren, Dustin Ashenfelder, Lauren Shelton (Chad), Justin Rooney, Nicholas Cumbie (Katelyn), Kailie Schwerin (Charlie), Hannah Cumbie Bruorton, Brian Michael (Courtney), and Micah Ashenfelder; and eight great-grandchildren, Crew Shelton, Braxton McCurdy, Colter Rooney, Mailie Shelton, Charlotte Cumbie, Sylvia Bruorton, Sylvie Cumbie, and Lytton Schwerin. He is also survived by three sisters, Catherine Ward, Freida Wilson, and Inez McGee, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Screven Baptist Church, with burial immediately following at Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., also at Screven Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Phillip's memory to Screven Baptist Church , 2221 South Island Road, Georgetown, SC 29440.
The Downtown Chapel of Mayer-Ethridge Funeral Home is assisting the family.
