Phillip R. Pope, Jr., 56, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2024, at MUSC in Charleston. Born December 11th, 1967, in Georgetown, SC he was the son of Phillip Pope Sr. (Gayle Tanner) and the late Patricia Lee Pope. He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Pope.
Phil enjoyed riding his Harley, tinkering with his trucks, and wide-open roads. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his loving family and numerous friends. He was known for his mischievous humor, crazy but imaginative ideas, and always knowing something about everything.
He will be remembered as being everyone's go-to guy with a contagious grin. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, resilience, hard work and abundant memories. Phillip is survived by his significant other Robin Miller of Georgetown, SC, his former wife Karen Pope of Georgetown, SC; his children: Jessica Ethridge of Georgetown, SC, Phillip Pope III (Kristen Pope) of Chapel Hill, NC, Caycee Pope (Garrett Owens) of Georgetown SC, Andrea Pope (Hunter Smith) of Georgetown SC, Alan Flowers, Murphy Flowers, Casey Thompson and Katie Thompson, all of Georgetown SC; his grandchildren: Trinity Flowers, Skylar Ackerman, Brandon Ackerman, Sophia Thompson, Sawyer Thompson, Reid Smith, Andrew Smith, all of Georgetown, SC and Avery Pope of Chapel Hill, NC; his sisters: Amanda Olivieri (Marco) of Knoxville, TN, and Suzanne Pope (Luke) of Pine Lake, GA; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and lifelong friends.
A special thank you to Georgetown Emergency Department and the MUSC cardio/thoracic unit, as well as the MUSC surgical team.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, September 11 in the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer-Ethridge Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for one hour prior, starting at Noon. Presiding over the service will be a lifelong friend of Phil's, Ms. Mary Green.
