Ramona Annette Kirkland McConnell, 80, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Born May 3, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd George Kirkland, Sr. and Lillian Vondula Streetman Kirkland.

Ramona worked as a bookkeeper for the Georgetown Times for more than 30 years and was a devoted member of Herbert Memorial United Methodist Church. She always had a story to tell and had a way of lighting up a room with her sweet and affectionate spirit. Giving and caring by nature, Ramona loved cooking, traveling, and cheering on the Atlanta Braves. She especially enjoyed taking her granddaughters shopping and treasured the time she spent with those she loved. Above all, Ramona loved her family, her friends, and most importantly, Jesus.

She is survived by her husband, Johnny McConnell; two sons, Danny McConnell and John McConnell, Jr. (Elizabeth Ann Rose); grandchildren, Jack Taylor McConnell Kennedy, Madison Capers (Jabbrel Drayton), Lilly McConnell Kennedy (Jared Crooks), and Emma Katherine Kennedy; great-grandson, Prince Drayton; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Jackie J. McConnell, Harriett and Frank Davis, Ellen and Rodney Ward, Vicki and Dale Baker, Ginger and Tom Hamblin, and Timmy and Jennifer McConnell; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her great-granddaughter, Violet Capers Kennedy-Crooks; brother, Lloyd George “Sonny” Kirkland, Jr. (Shawn); nephew, Jason Kirkland; brother-in-law, H. Lavern McConnell; and sister-in-law, S. Julliette James.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Herbert Memorial United Methodist Church. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the church.   

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Susan G. Komen in support of breast cancer research and awareness.
