Obituary

Georgetown: Raymond Edward Roper, 85, loving husband and beloved father, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007. Mr. Roper was born in Greenville, South Carolina on September 26, 1921, the son of the late Edward Cleveland Roper and Pauline Pinson Roper. He was reared in Greenville by his maternal aunt, Cora Pinson Moore and her husband Charles Emerson Moore. Mr. Roper served honorably and courageously in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired from International Paper Company after 45 1/2 years of dedicated service. While with IP, he was a member of the Quarter Century Club and the Pine Tree Club. Mr. Roper was a member of St. Mary Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #3067, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6444. Mr. Roper was a founder of the Georgetown Kraft Credit Union and served as a director of the South Carolina Credit Union League for six years. Surviving are: his wife of fifty-eight years, Virginia "Bunny" Sherwin Roper of Georgetown; his son, Raymond Edward Roper, Jr. of Pawleys Island; two daughters, Cheryl Roper Pritzen of Spring, Texas and Susan Roper Emanuel of Charlotte, N. C.; seven grandchildren, Ginger Roper Hair, Leslie Roper Keefe, Erin Michelle Roper, Philip Roper Emanuel, Labrie Roper Pritzen, Courtney Marie Roper, and Paula Douglas Pritzen; and two great-grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Paul and Taylor Leigh Hair. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at eleven o'clock Saturday morning, March 24, 2007 at St. Mary Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Ronald J. Farrell. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home Friday evening, March 23, 2007, from six until eight with a brief prayer service at seven. Memorials may be made to St. Mary Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church, 317 Broad St., Georgetown, S. C. 29440 or to the charity of one's choice.
