Georgetown:
Reba Melise Tyler Mercer, 84, widow of William Dan Mercer, died Saturday, February 9, 2013, at Tidelands Community Hospice House.
Mrs. Mercer was born in Georgetown on July 27, 1928, a daughter of the late Rollin Moyd Tyler and Lucille Bass Tyler. She grew up in the Pleasant Hill community of Georgetown County, graduated from Georgetown County schools, and attended Coker College. Mrs. Mercer was a legal secretary for Rosen and Rosen Law Firm for over 50 years and was very involved with civic organizations in Georgetown. She was a member of Herbert Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Young at Heart Sunday School Bible Study. Mrs. Mercer had a love for music, gardening, and working with flowers.
Surviving are: her daughter, Karen Haselden (Wyatt) of Georgetown; and two grandsons, Tyler and Nick Haselden of Georgetown. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Mercer was predeceased by a sister, Beatrice Tyler Squires.
Funeral services will be at two o'clock on Tuesday afternoon, February 12, 2013, at Herbert Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Marie Knuckles. Burial will follow at Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening, February 11, 2013, at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home from six until eight o'clock.
