Georgetown:
R. Prince Ballard, 91, died Sunday, June 19, 2005, at the Medical University of S. C. Hospital in Charleston.
Mr. Ballard was born in Georgetown on May 21, 1914, a son of the late Lee Cannon Ballard, Sr. and Winifred Rouse Ballard. He lived all his life in Georgetown and was an avid saltwater trout fisherman. Mr. Ballard retired in 1976 after thirty-nine years employment with International Paper Co. He was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Mr. Ballard was also a member of the Quarter Century Club and Pine Tree Club at the paper mill. He was married to the late Mary Layton Ballard for over fifty years.
Surviving are: a daughter, Mary Prince B. Wood of Georgetown; a sister, Winifred B. Poit of Georgetown; three grandchildren, Lisa Wetzel of Key Largo, Fla., Michael Wilson of Georgetown, Lee Wood, Jr. of Metairie, La.; and three great-grandchildren, Meredith Wilson, Josie Wood and Luke Wood.
Funeral services will be two o'clock Wednesday afternoon, June 22, 2005, at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Phillip C. Thrailkill. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
