Andrews:
Rev. Billy E. Rufus, 70, died Wednesday, August 11, 2004, at Roper Hospital in Charleston.
Rev. Rufus was born in Witt, Ill. on January 8, 1934, a son of the late William Dennison Rufus and Imogene Hutchins Rufus. He grew up in Witt and attended the schools there. Rev. Rufus served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of Belhaven College in Jackson, Miss. and Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Ga. Rev. Rufus was the Pastor of Andrews Presbyterian Church and had served there for over 34 years. He was a former pastor at Central Presbyterian Church near Kingstree and New Covenant Presbyterian Church in Manning. Rev. Rufus loved and recorded country music.
Surviving are: his wife, Betty McGuire Rufus of Andrews; two sons, Thomas D. Rufus and Michael D. Rufus, both of Andrews; a daughter, Vicky R. Moree of Andrews; a brother, Ronald R. Rufus of Witt, Ill.; seven sisters, Ramona Corbin, Beverly Brizele, Sylvia Rufus, Connie Crowder and Amber Laurenzana, all of Springfield, Ill., Betty Willa of St. Louis, Mo., and Shirley Toby of Traveler's Rest; and five grandchildren, Kevin Rufus, Matthew Rufus, Chad Moree, Jeremy Rufus, and Kate Rufus, all of Andrews.
Rev. Rufus was predeceased by three brothers, James, Dale, and Sonny Rufus.
Funeral services will be at two o'clock on Sunday afternoon, August 15, 2004, at Andrews Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be The Rev. Paul Miles. Burial will follow in Andrews Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Saturday evening, August 14, 2004, at the Church from six until eight o'clock.
