Obituary

Andrews: Rev. Earl DeVon Brooks, 68, died Tuesday, August 3, 2004, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, N.C. Rev. Brooks was born in Brookfield, Ind. on November 29, 1935, a son of the late Arthur DeVon Brooks and Cecil Leon McNew Brooks. He grew up in New Palestine, Ind. and graduated from Moral High School. Rev. Brooks graduated from Clear Creek Baptist College and also attended the University of Kentucky. He was a Southern Baptist Minister for 35 years, and served as Pastor at: Fonde Baptist Church in Fonde, Ky.; Elkhorn City Baptist Church in Elkhorn City, Ky.; Faith Baptist Church in Caney, Ky.; Hinson's Crossroads Baptist Church in Fair Bluff, N.C.; and Pine Crest Baptist Church in Andrews from 1994 until 1998. Rev. Brooks was a member and deacon at the First Baptist Church, Andrews. Surviving are: his wife, Marilyn Brooks of Andrews; two sons, Tom Brooks of Hampstead, N.C. and Ted Brooks of Andrews; two daughters, Terri Salyer of Beckley, W. Va. and Peggy Jenkins of Cerro Gordo, N.C.; five brothers, Eddy Brooks of Melbourne, Fla., Fred Brooks of Canton, Miss., Raymond Brooks and Gary Brooks, both of New Palestine, Ind., and Bobby Brooks of Olney, Ill.; four sisters, Jane Lee of Melbourne, Fla., Margie Camden of Petersburg, Ind., and Susan Montgomery and Patty Bowman, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be at eleven o'clock on Friday morning, August 6, 2004, at the First Baptist Church, Andrews. Officiating will be The Rev. Donald P. Sapp. Pallbearers will be Tom Brooks, Chris Jenkins, Wendell Salyer, Eric Brooks, Andrew Salyer, and Ted Brooks. Honorary pallbearers will be The Rev. Tim Moore, The Rev. Paul Walls, The Rev. Billy Rufus, and The Rev. Jimmy Suggs. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, August 5, 2004, at the First Baptist Church, Andrews, from six o'clock until eight-thirty.
