Georgetown:
Richard "Dickie" Olin Jayroe, 85, husband of Geraldine Long Jayroe, died Monday, October 5, 2020, at his residence in town.
Mr. Jayroe was born March 15, 1935, in Georgetown County, a son of the late Peter Columbus Jayroe and Pearl Florence Skinner Jayroe. He grew up on Benvenue Plantation and graduated from Winyah High School. Mr. Jayroe was in the National Guards here in Georgetown and was very active in many duties performed after Hurricane Hazel. He was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church where he also attended church school. A big part of his life was managing Weymouth Plantation where enjoyed the local river. Mr. Jayroe enjoyed to hunt and fish and to spend time on the water with Geraldine. He was owner and operator of Jayroe and Sons, and one of his biggest accomplishments was the restoration of the Rice Fields and the duck empoundments. Dickie and Geraldine were married for over fifty-nine years.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Jayroe was predeceased by: eight siblings.
He is survived by his wife: Geraldine Long Jayroe of Georgetown; four sons, Richard "Ricky" O. Jayroe, Jr. (Kelly), Christopher Mark Jayroe (Brigitte), Wallace Elmer Jayroe and Kevin Dean Jayroe, all of Georgetown; one brother, Col. J. Skinner Jayroe (Lupi) of TX, and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be eleven o'clock Friday, October 9, 2020, in Elmwood Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Ross Chellis.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the home of Kevin Jayroe, 914 Highmarket Street, Georgetown.
