Georgetown:
Richard LaBruce "Bruce" Jayroe, 70, died Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at his residence.
Mr. Jayroe was born in Georgetown on June 29, 1933, a son of the late William Henry Jayroe, Sr. and Annie Mae Cooper Jayroe. He grew up in Georgetown and graduated from Winyah High School. Mr. Jayroe served in the U. S. Air Force in France and was a member of V. F. W. Post #6444 and American Legion Post #144. Mr. Jayroe retired from International Paper Company in 1996. He was a member and former secretary of PACE, local union #377. Mr. Jayroe was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church.
Surviving are: a daughter, Lynn Jayroe Boan of Sumter; a son, Capt. Richard A. Jayroe of Poway, Cal.; a step-daughter, Gwendolyn M. Davis of Georgetown; a step-son, Samuel G. McDowell of Tenn.; a brother, Harold B. Jayroe of Columbia; five sisters, Shirley Jayroe Hutto of McClellanville; Linda Jayroe Hardee, Nora Jayroe Overturf, and Vivian Jayroe Wall, all of Georgetown; and Connie Jayroe Owens of Chicago, Ill.; two grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be Monday, March 15, 2004, at eleven o'clock in Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Phillip C. Thrailkill. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home Sunday evening, March 14, 2004, from six until eight.
