Georgetown:
Richard Francis Murphy died Thursday, December 30, 2004, at Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet.
Mr. Murphy was born in Worcester, Mass. on December 26, 1923, a son of the late John Walter Murphy and Louise Gately Murphy. He grew up in Worcester and graduated from the University of South Carolina. Mr. Murphy served in the Navy during World War II in the North Atlantic. He retired from the Internal Revenue Service after a thirty year career and opened his own accounting firm, which he operated until retirement. Mr. Murphy moved to Georgetown in 2002 from Spartanburg and was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. He was the widower of Lola McKnight Murphy.
Surviving are: two sons, Ken Murphy and his wife Donna of Pawley's Island and Rick Murphy and his wife Lauren of Pickens; a daughter, Denise Pace and her husband Bob of Georgetown; a brother, Charles Murphy of Worcester, Mass; a sister, Rita Fitzgerald of Windsor, Conn.; seven grandchildren, Marshall Murphy, Chandler Murphy, and Lawson Murphy, all of Pawley's Island, Emily Pace of Columbia, Alicia Williams of Charleston, and Wesley Murphy and Elliott Murphy, both of Pickens.
Funeral services will be one o'clock Monday afternoon, January 3, 2005, at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church near Greeleyville. Officiating will be the Rev. Phillip. C. Thrailkill. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
