Obituary

Pawleys Island

Richard "Rick" B. Myers, 86, of Pawleys Island, SC, passed away at his home on April 15, 2025.

Born in Akron, Ohio, Rick was the son of the late Richard and Katherine Myers. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sharlene Payne Myers, and his son, Bradley Boyd Myers.

Rick was raised in Ohio and attended The College of Wooster before proudly serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. His career in the hospitality industry spanned more than four decades, with leadership roles in Cleveland, New Orleans, and Atlanta. He retired as Vice President of Sales for the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau, where he was widely respected for his warm demeanor and genuine desire to help others.

Rick and Sharlene raised their family in New Orleans and Roswell, Georgia. A doting father, he cherished time spent boating, fishing, and camping with his three children. In retirement, Rick and his beloved second wife, Sue, moved to Pawleys Island, South Carolina, where he continued to give back—volunteering with Midway Fire Rescue, earning multiple commendations for his service, and later working at Pawleys Island Supplies, where he loved connecting with locals and visitors alike.

Rick found joy in nature's pleasures—especially feeding and watching the many birds and animals that visited the beautiful pond and swampland just behind their home.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Suzanne "Sue" Riggle Myers; his children, Timothy (Christa) Myers and Ashley (Brandon) Clark; and seven grandchildren. He is also remembered with love by Sue's children, Mike (Lynne) Mushock and Ted Mushock, along with their families.

The Myers family extends heartfelt gratitude to Rick and Sue's devoted caregiver, Lavonn Getterman, the Midway Fire Department, and the owners and staff at Pawleys Island Supplies for their support and kindness.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Myers House, 225 Red Maple Drive, Pawleys Island, SC 29440, on Sunday, August 10, 2025 from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the International Association of Fire Fighters Foundation or The Nature Conservancy .

The Georgetown Chapel of Mayer-Ethridge Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family.
