Georgetown:
Richard Edward "Dick" Toemmes, 67, husband of 42 years of Pamela M. Toemmes died Friday, April 29, 2011, at his residence.
Born January 1, 1944 in Ottumwa, Iowa, he was the son of the late Vernell Eugene Toemmes and Sarah Maurine Toemmes. Mr. Toemmes was a U. S. Army Veteran. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he worked for the S. C. State Department of Education and his love of fishing and hunting brought him to Georgetown in 1978. He worked for the Georgetown County School District as an Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent and as the Director of Operations and The Director of Computer and Technology Services for the school district. After retiring from the school district, he started his own computer repair business, Computer Resource.
Mr. Toemmes was an active scout leader with the Boy Scouts of America in the 1980's and an original member of the Keep Georgetown Beautiful Committee. He enjoyed life and spending time with friends and family.
He is survived by: his wife of Georgetown; his daughter, Sarah Melissa Toemmes of Pawleys Island; his son, Michael Brian Toemmes (Ranie) of Georgetown; and his two precious granddaughters, Elizabeth Caroline Toemmes and Anna Marguerite Toemmes, both of Georgetown. His is also survived by his brother, Thomas V. Toemmes (Connie) of Ankeny, Iowa; his aunt, Sabella M. Harness of Ottumwa, Iowa; his mother-in-law, Lucille E. Meany of Georgetown; and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 4:00 pm with family visitation at the church following the service.
