Obituary

Myrtle Beach: Richard Kencie Turner, 70, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, March 17, 2012, after an iron-willed struggle against a stroke that occurred October 2011. He returned to his Heavenly Father with open arms. Born August 25, 1941 in Florence, he was the son of a hard working farming family. He is pre-deceased by his father, Aubrey L. Turner, mother, Dorothy Ayers Turner Calhoun and brother, Aubrey Landon Turner. In the mid 70's he purchased the Vancouver Motel in Myrtle Beach. His family had close ties to the beach and his grandfather built Kings Highway as we know it today. Richard loved his businesses and made many close friends as the proprietor of over 30 years. Success to him was loving what he did and bringing joy to others. Richard was an excellent and truly talented golfer. He would always say, "If you really want to get to know a person, spend 4 hours on the golf course with them". When the game was "on" and his name was mentioned, his competitors shuttered and his partners rejoiced! (You know who you are!) Always a smile on his face and a friendly hand extended, whatever side you were on, you were all his true friends. He made the world a better place. Surviving are his wife, Cathy Lynn Turner of Pawleys Island; his children, DeAna and Dr. Jamie Duffy of Murrells Inlet, Tracy and Christie Turner of Myrtle Beach; Heidi Geiger of Florence, Heather Covington Rose and Terrell and Elizabeth Covington of Greenville; his grandchildren, Savannah and Dylan Keels, Daniel and Andrew Geiger, Nicholas and Nathaniel Turner, Jackson and Max Rose.
