Obituary

Alexandria, VA Robbie Davis Roberts passed away on April 7, 2011 at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda (MD), from complications which arose following a successful open heart surgery performed on March 1 Mrs. Roberts is survived by: her husband of more than fifty-five years, Wilson Jennings Roberts, Sr. (CDR, USN-ret); as well as a son, W. J. (Chip) Roberts, Jr. and a daughter, Elizabeth R. Glasser, all current residents of Alexandria (VA). She is also survived by: three siblings, Cheryl Bellune of Georgetown (SC), Bennie Davis of Jacksonville (FL), and Ronald Davis of Atlanta (GA). Mrs. Roberts was born December 23, 1931 in Fort Smith, AR, a daughter of James Harold Davis and Virginia Barrett Davis, but spent her school-age years in Georgetown (SC). After graduating from Winyah High School, she attended business school in Charleston and worked at West Chevrolet before marrying and embarking on a busy life as a Navy wife. In recent years, Mrs. Roberts lived quietly as a resident of the Mount Vernon area of Alexandria (VA) and was a member of The Neighborhood Friends of Mount Vernon which supports efforts to preserve the historic estate of George Washington and was affiliated with Belle Haven Country Club. She was also an avid gardener and had keen interests in finance and real estate. The family will be receiving visitors at the Mayer Funeral Home (222 St. James Street) on Wednesday, April 13, from 11:00am to 1:00pm and an online guest book is available at www.mayerfuneralhome.com/.
