Mount Pleasant: Robert "Robbie" Andrew Assey, 64, born April 20, 1949, "The unofficial Mayor of Georgetown," left this earth on Friday, November 22, 2013, to be with his parents, Dr. John T. Assey and Helen Maguire Assey, his brother, Dr. Michael E. Assey, and his aunts, Mamie Delzell and Rosa Lilly. He leaves behind three brothers, John Adrian and his wife, Ruth of Nashville, TN, James M. Assey and his wife, Joan of Columbia, SC, and Dr. Timothy Assey and his wife, Dianne of Mt. Pleasant, SC, as well as his sister, Jane Assey and sister-in-law, Valerie Assey of Mt. Pleasant, SC. In addition, Robbie adored each and every one of his four nephews and seven nieces, who will serve as pallbearers for Robbie's service. All of his family will miss him terribly, but feel so very blessed to have been a part of the life of this wonderfully special man! He loved the USC Gamecocks, the Dallas Cowboys, wrestling, bowling, golf, bingo, Elvis, Johnny Cash, and all kinds of music, especially country. He loved "his people" which included everyone. Although our hearts are breaking right now, we draw strength from knowing that his life was a unique gift to us all. We will be eternally grateful that he was a part of our lives for so long. Goodnight, Sweet Prince, rest easy now. Your work is done. You fought the good fight. We all look forward to seeing you again, and are comforted by the words you told us so often, "I'm right here!" The family will receive friends Sunday, November 24, 2013, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with the Rosary to be recited at 6:00 pm at J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 25, 2013 in St. Mary Our Lady of Ransom Roman Catholic Church, 317 Broad Street, Georgetown, SC. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery, 1601 Highmarket Street, Georgetown, SC. Memorials may be made in Robbie's name to the charity of one's choice .
