Georgetown: Robert G. Coates, 82, died Thursday, April 5, 2007, at Georgetown Healthcare & Rehab. Mr. Coates was born in Aynor on November 11, 1924, a son of the late Ezra G. Coates and Eva Lorene Allen Coates. He grew up in Horry Co., graduated from Conway High School, and served in the Army during World War II. Mr. Coates lived in Georgetown since 1976. He worked with Pelican Building Center for a number of years and retired in 1992. Mr. Coates was a member of Ringel Heights Baptist Church. Surviving are: his wife, Allene Kirton Coates of Georgetown; a son, Ronald Coates of Aynor; three daughters, Patricia Zurcher of Wilmington, N. C., Joyce Rabon of Conway, and Marsha Long of Myrtle Beach; a step-son, Robert Cox, Jr. of Pawleys Island; a step-daughter, Sylvia Marlowe of Pleasant Hill; a brother, John W. Coates of Goose Creek; four sisters, Lois McClellan of Florence, Mildred Gore of Conway, Thelma Thompson of Thomasville, N. C., and Ann Newman of North Charleston; eighteen grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be four o'clock Saturday afternoon, April 7, 2007, at Ringel Heights Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Chris J. Giles and the Rev. Themos J. Cribb.
