Georgetown: Robert L. "Billy" Owens, Jr., 78, died Sunday, March 8, 2009, at Tidelands Community Hospice House. Mr. Owens was born in Georgetown on May 18, 1930, son of the late Robert Lee Owens and Ila Mae Harrelson Owens. He was a graduate of Winyah High School and served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Owens worked for a number of years with the Container Division of International Paper Company and was also part owner of Owens Brothers Construction Company. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6444 and a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose. Mr. Owens was predeceased by: his wife, Janette Austin Sherrill Owens; and a sister, Sarah Parsons. Surviving are: two daughters, Deborah O. Ledford and Kimberly Ann Owens, both of Georgetown; two brothers, Donald L. (Vivian) Owens and Raymond Owens, both of Georgetown; and two sisters, Shirley (Robert) Matrasko and Bobbie O. (Lamar) Campbell, both of Georgetown; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be Thursday morning, March 12, 2009, at eleven o'clock at First Baptist Church.
