Georgetown:
Mr. Robert Jay Shank, 61, husband of Debra Lou Thompson Shank, died Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Shank was born in Johnstown, PA on January 1, 1955, a son of Robert James Shank and the late Alma June Moss Shank. He was a school teacher for the Georgetown County School District, where he taught special education for 15 years. Mr. Shank was a member of the Somerset Alliance, Somerset PA, a member of the Georgetown Lions Club, SC Education Association, and the Kayak Club (Lazy Navy). Bob truly loved life. He was the perfect husband, father, and loved his kids, grandkids, as well as his nieces and nephews. He had a great love for all animals. He had that special gift for making everyone smile and this gift overflowed into his classroom as he developed long term relationships with his students, faculty, and colleagues. He was an avid outdoor enthusiast and was forever gardening, biking, hiking, kayaking, fishing, and camping, always with his "Deb". Because of his love for people, he donated his eyes to research in order to help others see.
In addition to his wife and father of Georgetown, Mr. Shank is survived by: a daughter, Andrea Megan Reed (Jason) of Morrison, CO; and a son, Andrew Jay Shank of Charleston; two grandchildren, Addison and Michael Reed; four in-laws, Dennis Thompson (Susan) of Maryland, Tim Thompson (Helen), Brad Thompson (Holly) and Barbara Fisher (Scott) all of PA; and his mother-in-law, Betty Lou Thompson of PA.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held from two until five o'clock, Sunday. September 25, 2016, at Hopsewee Plantation. Officiating will be the Rev. John Williams.
