Obituary

Pawleys Island: Ruth Benn Starnes died Monday, March 1, 2010, at Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet. Mrs. Starnes was born in Maysville, Ky., a daughter of the late Rev. Dr. Robert Lee Benn and Mary Ruth Turner Benn. She attended Queens College in Charlotte, N. C. and graduated from Maryville College in Maryville, Tenn. Mrs. Starnes was an active member of Georgetown Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women of the Church and a former church Sunday School Teacher. Mrs. Starnes was predeceased by five sisters and a brother. Surviving are: her husband, J. Wesley Starnes of Pawleys Island; five nieces, Ruth Oliver Bell (Cobb) of Georgetown, Margaret Rose Macdonald of Williamsburg, Va., Dr. Martha Macdonald of Rock Hill, Juliana Ott of Lexington, and Sarah Swinn (Craig) of Gettysburg, Pa.; three nephews, Rev. Robert Benn Vincent (Sandy) of Alexandra, La., Dr. Roderick Macdonald (Helen) of Columbia, and Thomas B. Bobo (Terry) of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a number of great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be eleven o'clock Thursday morning, March 4, 2010, at Georgetown Presbyterian Church followed by a reception in the Church fellowship hall. Officiating will be the Rev. Stephen H. Wilkins, the Rev. Robert Benn Vincent, and the Rev. Dr. William H. Puckett, Jr. Burial will follow at two o'clock in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens in Georgetown.
