Obituary

McClellanville: Sara Burgess Graham, 87, widow of Francis Hugh Graham, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at Hospice of Charleston in Mount Pleasant. Mrs. Graham was born in Marion on November 3, 1920, a daughter of the late William Rose Burgess and Lily Irene Brown Burgess. She lived in Sumter as a child and was educated in Sumter County schools. Mrs. Graham graduated from Winthrop College in 1941 and moved to McClellanville. Since 1942, she was a member of McClellanville United Methodist Church where she was the church organist for many years. Mrs. Graham taught public school for thirty-two years and was a teacher at Archibald Rutledge Academy for eleven years. She loved music, studied piano, and played the organ and was a gardener. Mrs. Graham was a longtime member of the Bridge Club. Her greatest love was her family, friends, and church. Surviving are: a son, Francis Hugh Graham, Jr. and his wife Rosemary of Simpsonville; two daughters, Katherine Graham Leland and her husband Rutledge B. and Margaret Graham Leland, all of McClellanville; eight grandchildren, Margaret Allen Leland DuPre and her husband, Andrew Gibbs of McClellanville; Rutledge Baker Leland, IV and his wife Hayley of Brevard, N C., Tamara C. Finley and her husband Charles William of Easley, Allison Kaiser Jones of James Island, Julia Katherine Jones of Rock Hill, James Chandler Leland, Alicia Horry Leland, and William Burgess Leland, all of McClellanville; five great-grandchildren; Andrew Hibben "Binks" DuPre and Hugh Baker DuPre, both of McClellanville, Avery Grace Leland of Brevard, Eliza Ralston Finley and Weston Hugh Finley, both of Easley; sisters-in-law, Sara Graham Vann and Frances Garrison Graham, both of McClellanville and Pauline Graham Mason of Brunswick, Ga.; and a number of nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be Friday morning, April 11, 2008 at eleven o'clock in McClellanville United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. James O. Harper and the Rev. Dr. Walter G. Cook. Burial will follow in McClellanville United Methodist Cemetery. Sign a guest book at www.mayerfuneralhome.com.
