Georgetown: Sarah Edna Thomas Sawyer, 89, widow of Tom McCutcheon Sawyer, died Thursday, November 1, 2007, at Tidelands Community Hospice House. Mrs. Sawyer was born in the Sampit Community of Georgetown Co. on June 11, 1918, a daughter of the late Samuel Sidney Thomas and Sallie Gertrude Budd Thomas. She grew up in Georgetown Co. and was a graduate of Winyah High School. Mrs. Sawyer lived in Charleston from 1937 until she returned to Georgetown in 1952. She was a member of First Baptist Church and Esther Fidelis Sunday School Class. Mrs. Sawyer was a member and past-president of Riceland Garden Club. She was manager of Mar Rose Dress Shop for a number of years. Mrs. Sawyer also co-owned an antique business, Sawyer's Antiques, with her late husband for forty years. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Sawyer was predeceased by: four brothers, Eddie Thomas, Sydney Thomas, Basil Thomas, and David Thomas; and a sister, Dorothy Thomas Carter. Surviving are: a son Thomas M. Sawyer, Jr. of Litchfield Beach; a daughter, Lois Sawyer Lott and her husband George B. of Anna Maria, Fla.; a sister, Gertrude T. Chandler of Georgetown; two grandchildren, Barry Lott and wife Roxanne of Sarasota, Fla. and Melissa Lott Jordan and her husband Robert of Orlando, Fla.; three great-grandchildren, Graham, Travis, and Luke Jordan; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be eleven o'clock Monday morning, November 5, 2007 at First Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Ted A. Sherrill, Rev. Keith Wall, and Rev. Jay Holmes.
