Florence:
Sarah Harleston Read Steen, 84, wife of Air Force Lt. Col. Joseph Charles Steen, Jr. died Thursday, February 17, 2022 in the Presbyterian Home in Florence.
Mrs. Steen was born in Bennettsville on August 8, 1937, a daughter of the late Allen Deas Read and Christine Yarborough Read. She was an Air Force wife for twenty-three years and a former employee of Bay Orthopedics Associates in Georgetown. Mrs. Steen was a member of Prince George Winyah Parish Church and volunteered for a number of church activities including the Plantation Tours. She was also a member of a bridge club, a book club, the Daughters of the American Revolution and Hugs for Horses Therapeutic Riding. Mrs. Steen was an avid horseback rider, had a great love for reading, crossword puzzles, sewing and needle work.
Surviving, in addition to her husband of Florence, are: two sons, Joseph C. Steen III (Diane) of Easley and Robert R. Steen of Georgetown; a daughter, Elizabeth S. Smith (Charlie) of Darlington; a sister, Christine Y. Swain (Ed) of Caledonia, MN; a brother Allen D. Read, Jr. (Candace) of Spotsylvania, VA; four grandchildren, Christine (Mike), Anna (Tyler), Samantha (Michael), and Emma (Brandon); and two great-grandchildren, Makayla and Harleston.
Memorial services will be ten-thirty Friday, February 25, 2022 at the graveside in Prince George Winyah Parish Churchyard. Officiating will be the Rev. Gary Beson. Internment will follow.
