Pawleys Island:
Stephen Earl Hutchinson, 62, lovingly known and remembered as Hutch, entered the presence of Jesus on Sunday, May 15, 2016.
Born in Charlotte, NC on August 31, 1953, and raised in Columbia, SC, he was a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a B.S. in Biology and of Coastal Carolina University with a B.S. in Computer Science and a Master's in Computer Gaming.
Hutch was a longtime lab technician on Hobcaw Barony for USC and Clemson University and a faculty member in the computer science department at Coastal Carolina University.
He had a lifelong love of fishing, camping, swamp slogging, and anything else that pertained to the great outdoors. If there were a band playing in the area, chances are Hutch would be there "dancing," the style of which he brought to many of his classes at Healthpoint – much to the entertainment of those around him. His love of the outdoors was perhaps only rivaled by his love of playing hoops, and he would often surprise the guys on the court by his moves. Hutch also had a passion for children's ministry and found ways to contribute and support kids who simply needed someone to love and encourage them.
Above all else, Hutch loved and cherished his family. He took great pride in being a husband, a "Papa" to his children, and an "Opa" to his grandchildren.
Hutch is survived by: his wife of almost 35 years, Avis Havel Hutchinson; his parents, Joseph and Jean Hutchinson; son, Jeremy Glick (Hayley); daughters, Meghan Bell (Andrew) and Rachel Hutchinson; sister, Janice Poda\; brother, Tim Hutchinson; grandchildren, Harry, Mary Gray, Emma, Gretchen, Micah, and Isaac as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Jomyka Hutchinson.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, May 21, 2016, at 2:00 pm at the Pawleys Island Community Church Chapel.
