McClellanville:
Stuart Christie Mackintosh of McClellanville, SC passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2016 after a brief illness. He was a lifelong resident of McClellanville. He is survived by daughters Diana Connell Park (Drennan) of Beaufort, SC, Marcia Connell Higaki of Charleston, sons Robert Connell (Fran) of Greensboro, NC, George Durden (Mary) of Greenwood, SC, Thomas Connell (Margaret) of Bellville, TX, eight grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved him dearly.
Mr. Mackintosh was born June 23, 1927 to the late James Douglas Mackintosh and Margaret Leslie Michie. He was predeceased by his beautiful and loving wife, Elaine Connell Mackintosh, two brothers James Douglas Mackintosh and Donald Mackintosh, and a sister, Margaret Crews.
Mr. Mackintosh attended Clemson College and retired from a 37 year career with the US Postal Service as a Rural Mail Carrier. He remained friends with many on his route long after his retirement. He was a devoted lifetime member of New Wappetaw Presbyterian Church, where he served as Elder, Deacon, Treasurer, Choir Member, and Chairman of the Cemetery Committee. He was recognized in 2004 by a resolution from New Wappetaw for his faithful and dedicated service to the church.
Mr. Mackintosh was a man of many interests. He had a sharp memory of life in the village during the early days and of times during World War II. He loved telling the history of that time. He was an avid collector of antique furniture and antique clocks which he repaired. He was proud of his Scottish heritage and was deeply devoted to and loved his family. He will be remembered fondly and missed dearly in equal measure for his story telling, imagination, and wit.
His service will be held at New Wappetaw Presbyterian Church, Pinckney Street, McClellanville on Thursday, February 18 at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at the New Wappetaw Church Cemetery he so lovingly watched over for many years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Wappetaw Presbyterian Church, PO Box 460, McClellanville, SC 29458.
