Obituary

Myrtle Beach: Sue Matthews Nobles, 83, died Sunday, June 5, 2005, at the Medical University Hospital of S. C. Mrs. Nobles was born in Andrews on June 19, 1921, a daughter of the late Edward DeLeon Matthews and Sulie Blanch Bryant Matthews. She was a graduate of Williamsburg High School in Williamsburg County and attended Lander College. Mrs. Nobles lived in Georgetown for thirty-two years and moved to Garden City Beach in 1971, where she was a resident until 1999. Mrs. Nobles was a charter member of Garden City Baptist Church where she served on the first building committee and a number of other committees of the church. She was a prominent businesswoman for many years and past president of the Georgetown Business and Professional Women's Club and a Charter member of Myrtle Beach and Murrells Inlet, Order of the Amarenth, Inc. Mrs. Nobles was a member of Timberlake Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach. Surviving are: two daughters, Betty Swart and her husband Allan of Annapolis, Maryland and Jeanne Rea and her husband Tom of Georgetown; two brothers, Edward DeLeon Matthews, Jr. of Douglasville, Ga. and George D. Matthews of Andrews; one sister, Pansy Guiens of Oak Hill, N. C; a grandson, John Rea and his wife Lisa; two granddaughters, Erin and her husband Paul Forbes and Teri and her husband Jerimey Holland, Sr., all of Georgetown; great grandchildren, Thomas Rea, Allan Rea, Nicholas, Rea, Connor Forbes, Jerimey Holland, Jr., and Dawson Forbes all of Georgetown; a number of nieces and nephews and two wonderful sisters-in-law. Mrs. Nobles was predeceased by her husband, Deemes Wesley "Nick" Nobles, Jr., two brothers, Winston B. Matthews and Charles E. Matthews. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at two o'clock at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. Stephen Williams and the Rev. Bob Taylor.
