Obituary

Commerce, Ga.: Theron Richardson Pipkin, 96, formerly of Georgetown, died Sunday, June 5, 2005, in Commerce, Ga. Mr. Pipkin was born November 27, 1908 in the Bloomingvale section of Williamsburg County, a son of the late Samuel Richardson Pipkin and Mary Alice Sarvis Pipkin. He spent his early life in Horry County and then moved to Georgetown in1924. Mr. Pipkin graduated from Winyah High School, class of 1926, and attended the University of South Carolina, class of 1930. He was employed by International Paper Company on June 27, 1937 and retired as Technical Superintendent on December 1, 1973. On September 3, 1939, Mr. Pipkin married Theresa Lee of Georgetown. He served in WWII as an Army staff sergeant May 7, 1942 through October 24, 1945. Mr. Pipkin moved to Commerce, Ga. in January of 1992. Mr. Pipkin was a member of the Georgetown Historical Society, the Winyah Indigo Society, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. He was a former member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church and was currently a member of First United Methodist Church of Commerce, Ga. Surviving are: his wife, Theresa Lee Pipkin of Commerce, Ga.; a daughter, Theresa P. (Rese) Tiller and her husband, Dr. Joseph A. Tiller of Commerce, Ga.; a granddaughter, Amelia T. Williams and her husband Richard P. Williams of James Island; a grandson, Joseph Christopher Tiller of Peachtree City, Ga.; four nieces, Jean Holland of Georgetown, Martha (Pat) Sasser and Jamie Black, both of Conway, and Mary Ann Carlson of Central Point, Ore.; a nephew-in-law, Philip Assey of Columbia; two nieces-in-law, Josephine A. Brunoski of Westport, Conn., and Marguerite Assey of Columbia; several cousins, grand nieces, and grand nephews. Funeral services will be ten o'clock, Thursday, June 9, 2005, at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Phillip C. Thrailkill and the Rev. David Bowen of Commerce, Ga. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Sign a guest book at www.mayerfuneralhome.com.
