Georgetown:
Thomas Alton Cox, 67, died Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Tidelands Community Hospice.
Mr. Cox was born in Georgetown on June 19, 1945, a son of Bennie Walker Cox, Sr. and Janie Etta Smith Cox. He grew up in Georgetown and attended the county schools. Mr. Cox was a life time member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, a member of the Francis Asbury Church School Class, and was very active in many Church organizations. He was the recipient of the only Mr. Georgetown Harborwalk Award in 2010. Alton was a very loving person who never met a stranger and had many life time friends.
Surviving are: a sister, Janice Cox Frye of Georgetown; two sisters-in-law, Gerry Cox of Columbia and Ann Cox of Greenville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Cox was predeceased by brothers, B. W. Cox, Jr., Alex Bright Cox, Clyde Cox, Dennis Cox, and Kenneth Cox.
Funeral Services will be Sunday, January 27, 2013, at two o'clock in Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Dora Gafford. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home Saturday evening, January 26, 2013 from five until seven o'clock.
