Obituary

McClellanville: Thomas Pascal ("Tommy") Duke III, age 67, died on September 8, 2016. A lifelong resident of the village of McClellanville, SC, Tommy was the son of Thomas P. Duke, Jr. and Lillian Woodard Duke. He was born in his family home on May 1st, 1949, graduated from McClellanville High School, and earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of South Carolina, Columbia. Tommy worked with his father for many years running Bulls Bay Seafood, the family seafood business, and later worked as an accountant for Piggly Wiggly Carolinas in Charleston and most recently for Carolina Seafood in McClellanville. A consummate family man, Tommy was happily married for forty-five years to Mary Scott Duke, was a proud father to three children, was an exceedingly proud grandfather to his five grandchildren, and was looking forward to meeting his sixth grandchild, expected in November. Tommy was passionate about many things: his family, the town and people of McClellanville, music, Gamecock football and basketball, woodworking, politics, cooking, and gardening, just to name a few. He had a special interest in and love for mentoring young people. He helped to organize a little league baseball team and a Sea Scouts troop in the village and also coached the Archibald Rutledge Academy boys' basketball team. Tommy is predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary, his three children and their spouses: Caroline Duke Keen (Whitney) of Camden, SC, Thomas P. Duke IV (Lauren) of Hanahan, SC, and Margaret Duke Nichols (Lawton) of Blythewood, SC; his five grandchildren: Julia, Robert, Scarlett, Annabelle, and Frances; his sisters Doris Duke Straight, Ann Duke Murray, Elizabeth Duke Gannon, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members. The family will greet visitors on Sunday between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. at 211 Scotia Street in McClellanville. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, September 12, 2016, at New Wappetaw Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in New Wappataw Presbyterian Cemetery.
