Obituary

Georgetown: Thomas Wannamaker Lane, Jr., 57, died Friday, March 12, 2004, at the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital in Charleston. Mr. Lane was born in Columbia on January 27, 1947, a son of Thomas Wannamaker Lane and the late Elise McLain Lane. He was a graduate of A. C. Flora High School and The Citadel. Mr. Lane served for four years in the U. S. Air Force and attained the rank of Captain. As an Air Force pilot, he flew transport planes into Japan and Viet Nam. Mr. Lane was a communicant of Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church. Mr. Lane was employed in Columbia as a real estate agent and with the Richland Co. Assessors Office prior to moving to Georgetown. He was the first assessor for Georgetown Co. and later opened a real estate appraisal business, The Lane Co., which he operated until 1995. He then returned to the Georgetown County Assessors Office as Deputy Assessor until his retirement in 2003. Surviving in addition to his father of Columbia are: his wife, Jan J. Lane of Georgetown; a daughter, Elise L. Kelly and her husband Matt of Georgetown; a son, Kenneth Wood and his wife Michelle of Georgetown; two sisters, Louise L. Caskey and her husband John of Columbia and Page L. Hodson and her husband Joe of Columbia; two grandsons, Samuel Wood and Ethan Wood, both of Georgetown; and two granddaughters, Hayden Kelly and Taylor Kelly, both of Georgetown. Memorial services will be two o'clock Sunday afternoon, March 14, 2004, at Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Paul C. Fuener and the Rev. Scott R. Fleischer.
