Thomas 'Tom' Jack Mason of Huntsville, Alabama passed away on June 16 at his home in Huntsville. A funeral service will be held at Laughlin Service Funeral Home at 2320 Bob Wallace Avenue SW in Huntsville on Saturday June 21, with visitation beginning at 2:30 and funeral service at 3:30 on that date. Interment will be held at 1:30 Tuesday, June 24, 2025, in the McClellanvile Methodist Church Cemetery in McClellanville, SC.
Tom was born in Starkville, MS to Thomas David and Tyffany Burns Mason on December 19, 1983. His family moved to Germantown, TN when he was 8, and he graduated from Houston High School there in 2002. He went on to earn a degree in software engineering at Mississippi State University in 2007. After graduation he worked as a software engineer in Huntsville and rose to the position of Sustainment Engineer for SAIC in Huntsville. He loved his work, and he was proud to be involved in projects that he considered to be important and significant.
He loved music and was an active member of the Houston High School band, playing the alto saxophone. He was also an accomplished guitarist and played bass guitar in the Houston High Jazz Band. He enjoyed volunteering in organizations such as children's soccer leagues, serving at various times as a coach and a referee. Early in his career in Huntsville, he worked in a volunteer organization that built wheelchair ramps in the homes of people who needed them. He volunteered often with Greenpower USA at various events and assisted the organization in other ways.
Tom is survived by his parents, David and Tyffany Mason; his brother, Bennett Mason, of Denton, Texas; and by his two children, Declan and Hannah Mason, of Huntsville, Alabama.
