Obituary

Georgetown: Tommy Lamar Johnson, 74, husband of Marlene Morris Johnson, passed away Friday, May 21, 2021, at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Mr. Johnson was born on September 29, 1946, a son of the late James Lee Johnson and Geneva Martin Johnson. Tommy was born in Horry County, but lived his life in Georgetown. After a lifetime spent fishing in the Pee Dee River, racing cars, rebuilding outboard motors and building houses, Tommy found the place he felt most at home at Holly Grove Plantation. For over 20 years, Tommy spent his days behind the front gate, renovating the house, planting fields, and treating the property like it belonged to him. He is predeceased by his parents, James Lee and Geneva, and his sister, Josephine (McRoy) Skipper. He is survived by his wife Marlene (Morris), his daughter Kimberley and Tommy Gordon, their children Katie and Luke; his daughter Victoria and Kevin Woodall, their son Woody, and daughter Taylor and her husband Patrick Ray and their son Thomas, Tommy's first great-grand; his son Lamar and Jeannette and their three sons, Randsom, Rucker, and Ridge. Tommy has one surviving sibling, his sister Bonnie Altman. His best friend is Rand Thomas, owner of Holly Grove Plantation. His memorial service is being held at Mount Tabor Baptist Church on May 24, 2021 at 11 a.m. Tommy and his long-time friend Patrick West built the current building after a fire destroyed the original structure.
