Andrews:
Vermie Long Bodiford, 81, widow of Charlie Harold "Harry" Bodiford, Sr., died Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at her residence.
Mrs. Bodiford was born in Andrews, a daughter of the late James "Jim" H. Long and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Thomas Long. She grew up in Andrews and attended Andrews High School. Mrs. Bodiford retired after a number of years employment with Oneita Industries. She was a member of Pine Crest Baptist Church, where she served her church as a Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher, and as a member of the Women's Ministry.
Vermie was a loving wife, a caring mother and a guiding light to all who knew her. She passed on her strong sense of family values to her three children, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, each of whom loved her dearly. In addition to her loving care, she was well known for her wholesome wit and wisdom. To make her points, she would often tell stories of days past as though listeners were watching a movie. This plus her mastery of "Southern expressions" made her a very entertaining and enlightening companion. She will be greatly missed by her family, her church and the community of Andrews, South Carolina.
Surviving are: a son, Charlie "Chuck" H. Bodiford, Jr. (Heidi) of Andrews; two daughters, Martha Ann B. Payton (John) of Oakwood, Ga. and Charlene B. Hayes (Leigh) of Chapel Hill, N.C.; a brother, Joe Weldon Long (Patricia) of Georgetown; three sisters, Vonnie L. Marsh of Tallahassee, Fla., Cora L. Ethridge of Andrews, and Ethel "Nealy" L. Ethridge (John) of Georgetown; three grandchildren, Kelli Oglesby (Bob), Kim Smith (Ted), and Kristen Foy (Rob); six great-grandchildren, Caroline and Thomas Oglesby, Abby and Tori Smith, and Katherine and Luke Foy; special caregiver, Linda Parsons; and special dog, Chipper.
Funeral services will be two-thirty o'clock Saturday afternoon, January 3, 2015, at Pine Crest Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Jack Mobley and the Rev. Geraldine Bednego. Burial will follow in Andrews Memorial Cemetery.
