Verna Lee Powell Smith, 76, died Tuesday, August 24, 2004.
Mrs. Smith was born near Andrews on August 12, 1928, a daughter of the late Dallas LeRoy Powell and Flossie Ethridge Powell Benton. She was a graduate of Andrews High School, Class of 1946 and attended Winthrop College. Mrs. Smith lived in Georgetown County all her life and ran Smith General Merchandise store in the Sampit Community for a number of years.
Surviving are: four sons, Richard L. Smith, Vernon W. Smith, Thomas L. Smith, and Robert D. Smith, all of Georgetown; a brother, Ronnie L. Powell of Andrews; four sisters, Bertha P. Brannan of Milledgeville, Ga., Shirley P. Connelly of Andrews, Gladys P. Cannon of Surfside Beach; and Doris P. Marlowe of Pawley's Island; eight grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Smith was predeceased by: her husband, Hoyt L. Smith and a son, Lester C. Smith.
Funeral services will be four o'clock Thursday afternoon, August 26, 2004, at Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Murray W. Powell and the Rev. Geraldine Bednego. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum.
