Vernice "Bunny" Avant Wilson, 95, died Saturday, December 4, 2010, at Georgetown Healthcare and Rehab, Inc.
Mrs. Wilson was born in Georgetown County on August 24, 1915, a daughter of the late Landy Wood Avant, Sr. and Mary Ella Grier Avant. She grew up in Georgetown and graduated from Winyah High School. Mrs. Wilson was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a former class president of the Susanna Wesley Church School Class, UMYF Director and a Sunday school teacher. She was also on the Council of Ministers and the Head of the Youth Department.
Surviving are: two sons, John Hazard Wilson, Jr. of Pawleys Island and Lynn Wood Wilson (Paula) of Georgetown; four brothers, Dr. William Avant (Eleanor), James Dalvin Avant and Landy Wood Avant, Jr., all of Georgetown, and Ray Avant (Reba) of Columbia; a sister, Frankie A. Dodd (Bruce) of Columbia; three grandchildren, Jessica W. Crosland (Matt) of Columbia, Dina W. Slice (Jason) of Chapin and Lisa W. Dickinson (Steve) of Truckee, Calif.; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Wilson was predeceased by: her husband, John Hazard Wilson; and a sister, Mildred Avant Juk.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday afternoon, December 7, 2010, at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church at two o'clock. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. G. Edward Usher and Bishop John Smith. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church Family Life Center. Burial will take place at Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens at three-thirty.
